Delhi’s air quality remains in ‘moderate’ category, AQI stands at 149

According to data from the System of Air Quality and Weather Forecasting and Research (SAFAR-India) on Friday morning, the air quality remained in the ‘moderate’ category in the national capital and the air quality index (AQI) was recorded at 149. It is noteworthy that AQI has increased from 83 on Wednesday to 149 on Friday. India’s financial capital, which had beaten Delhi on October 18 in terms of poor air quality, has recorded ‘moderate’ category air for the second consecutive day with AQI at 132.

According to SAFAR, AQI at Delhi Airport (T3) was 193. 108 was recorded at IIT Delhi and then 132. AQI was recorded at Noida. AQI was 249 and 280 respectively, that too in areas like Delhi University, Dhirpur. According to SAFAR, some areas like Pusa, Lodhi Road, Mathura Road, Gurugram recorded ‘satisfactory air’ with AQI at 95, 81, 81, 97 respectively.

According to the Central Pollution Control Board, bad air was recorded with 248 AQI in areas like Burari. 236 AQI was recorded in Dwarka Sector-8 and 201 AQI was recorded in Jahangirpuri. AQI 213 was recorded in RK Puram. AQI 243 was recorded in Rohini, however, AQI 205 was recorded in Vijaypur. It is said to be in the ‘poor’ category.

According to the AQI scale, air quality checks out between 0 and 50 as “good”, between 51 and 100 as “satisfactory”, between 101 and 200 as “moderate”, between 201 and 300 as “poor”, between 301 and 400 as “poor”. “Very bad”. and 401 and 450 “severe”

The Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC) board also held a meeting at the secretariat earlier on Tuesday. Anil Gupta, a special member of the panel, said concerns about the possible deterioration in air quality or pollution in general were not discussed in the meeting.

Air Quality Index is a tool by which people can understand and effectively communicate the status of air quality in easy to understand terms. However, AQI has six categories, namely good, satisfactory, moderately polluted, poor, very poor and severe. Each of these A category is decided on the basis of ambient concentration values of air pollutants and their potential health effects (known as health breakpoints).
